New payment channels and a better checkout process
It has been a while since we posted anything on this blog. Reason? We have been quite busy this week meeting new schools and also pushing our new advertisement product. Have you checked it out?
Today, though, we are announcing the introduction of new payment channels for our products. For the last four years we have been using iPay as our payment gateway provider. They have done a great job of collecting payments on our behalf.
Recently, they upgraded their services to introduce the EazzyPay and eLipa payment channels. Equity Bank is the largest Kenyan bank by customer base and so it makes a lot of sense to have it among our payment options. There’s also eLipa by iPay – an Android app that acts like a virtual wallet. These two payment channels are now included on the checkout page in addition to M-PESA, Airtel Money and Credit Card payments.
Changes in the checkout process
- Previously, the account number had always been ‘sematime’. This is not the case anymore. iPay will be generating new unique account numbers at runtime.
- No need to enter the M-PESA code for payment verification. After sending the money, wait for the M-PESA SMS acknowledgement then click the ‘Confirm Payment’ button.
- No more misplaced transactions or checkout errors. Previously, we had been getting calls from clients who for example bought SMS units that are yet to reflect in their account. This will be no more.
- While buying SMS units through M-PESA, it’s possible to send less amount than is required to complete your transaction. Previously, such transactions would be rejected but with this update we will still process the transaction and award you a lesser number of units than you had intended.
